Polo Academy

Learn to Play Polo in our Polo Academies!

What is the Polo Academy?

The Academy is the perfect way to learn all the fundamentals of the game. This popular program is geared toward people with or without riding experience that want to learn a new exciting sport and build relationships in the community.  The Academy meets at the same time each week. Sessions will last about an hour and a half. If you miss one, fear not, there are plenty of opportunities for make ups. After each session, club members will play chukkers. You are more than welcome to stick around and watch.

We will provide everything you need to get the right start in polo, i.e. professional instructors, well-schooled safe polo ponies and all the equipment.  Participants will also receive their own foot mallet to practice.  We just ask that you outfit yourself with white jeans or breeches, riding boots, gloves and helmet (see links below). Spaces are filling fast. Contact us at info@southbaypoloclub.com or complete the form below for more information or to sign up.

Equipment needed: White jeans or breeches, riding boots and helmet. We will have mallets and all other necessary equipment. If you don’t want to commit to a polo helmet and boots yet, a NOCSAE approved riding helmet and paddock boots with half chaps will work just fine too.

“From zero to hero!” This is what Francesca, the owner of South Bay Polo, told me at my first Polo Academy practice. It was hard to believe as I’d never played the sport before. Sure enough, at the end of a six week academy, I was galloping down the field with my team playing real chukkers!

Fran runs a great program for beginners and supports you all the way up the levels with tons of fun opportunities to learn the game and improve your horsemanship. Her string of lesson polo ponies are safe and well looked after. Playing polo was truly some of the most fun I’ve ever had!
